This is a really great merit badge. If someone takes music classes in the public school or has taken private musical instrument lessons such as violin, coronet, flute, clarinet, or vocal singing lessons, this merit badge is quite easy. If someone hasn’t taken music lessons either privately or from a public school music class teacher, This merit badge requires about seven (7) weeks of musical instrument practice to be able to complete requirements #3c or #4b (performing as a soloist musician at a musical instrument public performance and composing a song on musical notation paper (or regular notebook paper that has been accommodated for writing musical song notation of notebook paper). This is a really great merit badge. The Pacific Ocean Arctic Seal Patrol and the North American Sea Mink Patrol has listed some really great songs, but they are not easy to “just pick up the music and ‘sight read’ the music.” These songs require quite a few hours of repetitive musical instrument practice–at least 160 hours of musical instrument practice for performance at a public performance for an audience. Music Merit Badge is a really great merit badge. Music is a really great hobby and may lead to a really great career in the music industry for some people who have their concerts widely distributed like some of the music groups that are played on several radio stations.
